This Brings Tears To My Eyes - [Erik]

You absolutely must watch this right now.

THE STORY:

In "Superman Returns", the Man of Steel comes back to Earth after a several year absence. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman's bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.

Jesus in tights and a cape....cool concept!

I can see the church promotions now...

First it was "The Passion"...

Then it was "Narnia"...

Movie theaters are using the church now for promotion to pre-sell so many tickets they are GUARANTEED huge numbers. And the churches are eating it up left and right... funny, funny stuff.

The bulletins and church programs will be filled with "exclusive showings" just for you and your friends. Pastors will be doing messages titled "OUR SAVIOR, OUR SUPERMAN".

All first time guests will receive FREE tickets to a showing of the movie... it'll be an awesome outreach to our lost and dying world. I couldn't be more excited or proud.

If the movie rocks me the way the trailer did, I'm gonna have to borrow Dorsey's rubber panties. The John Williams theme alone is gonna make me throw mine on the stage.

This one had me at ba...ba, ba, ba, ba...ba...ba...ba.

Erik,

Do you watch Smallville?

I've never seen it, but it's back in syndication & I might start.

Gotta love Superman stories...

I saw the preview the other night when we went to watch Harry Potter Goblet of Fire (which was awesome!).

That Superman preview sent chills up my spine. I thought of Jesus right away when he said "I've sent you my only son..."

If you look close enough, alot of movies have a redemption theme. Like in Harry Potter, the reason Harry didn't die as a baby when Voldemort tried to kill him, is because he was protected by his mother's LOVE, who gave herself to save him.

chills.... Of course that leaves me with no place to go but disappointment. Now it's a theological movie and I'll expect Aramaic subtitles and an ABC news special: "Superman: the dual-natured savior in Gnostic texts."
In a shameless somewhat-related plug, I put up a post on my blog called "Choosing My Religion" about Jedi-ism and religion (stolen from "The Door"). I just can't figure out which movie to worship, but the Superman trailer gives me hope. I haven't lit the incense yet, but I'm close.

Yo Jeff. Sorry it's taken so long for me to pop back in here. We were on a little vacation (roughing it in Longboat Key).

Anyway, I do watch Smallville regularly. I have a love/hate relationship with it. For a while there, all the mutant teenager story lines were driving me mad. But I love Superman. So I must watch (although I never got into Lois and Clark for some reason). They've moved the storyline along and things continue to get better. I really do like their treatment of the myth so far.

Worth watching. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I actually watched Lois & Clark (Teri Hatcher... mmmmm), but it was a little campy for my taste.

I hope this movie maintains some of the feel of the Christopher Reeve era of Superman.

Yeah! The Jesus parallel was stirring. I teared up a bit, too. I have a movie clip that I've been wanting to pass on - once I get Joe to do it. It is from "Late Night With Conan..." Funny, funny, funny, funny, funny...and a little bit...INAPROPRIATE.
