Train Wreck - [Etcetera]

They say that you're only as good as your last show. Well... here's our last show.

This wasn't our last show ever (although you never know) but we will be doing a re-air of Etcetera next week. So if you have any requests, leave them in the comments to this post and we'll try to do you right.

If you haven't subscribed to the podcast yet, then you're not getting our show delivered automatically (and free) directly to your computer/iPod. I just thought you should know.

Erik,

I have one word...Chib.

Another word... "Goulet"

I keep thinking it was around the New Year (perhaps right after Etcetera returned from the holidays) that the discussion of this Will Ferrell/Conan O'Brian epic meeting began...

Due to a series of misanthropic coincidences, I only now was able to listen to the show (5 days later). Too many good things to recount, but the positive concensus about "Scrooged" (my favorite Christmas movie) made my day seem brighter. Every year, my preferred publications come out with their lists of Christmas film favorites, and "Scrooged" is never anywhere to be found.

Perennially panned as pop-culture fluff, "Scrooged" is, of course, no "Wonderful Life," and nothing compares to Alastair Sim's portrayal of Ebenezer. But "Scrooged" offers an effective, if overblown story of compassion's triumph over selfishness and cynicism. I always shed tears in the final scene, when Frank Cross finally and so convincingly "gets it." Maybe it's because I seem to be continually going through the process of "getting it" myself.

As far as this week's show, Mystery Babylon is my choice for the recurring re-air. I know it's been re-aired before, but I cannot get enough of that show. Crazy Lady rules!

My vote would be for something more than 5-6 months old, because I've got all the others. Re-airing an episode takes on a different meaning for a podcast, after all.

Guys, guys, guys (in a non gender specific way, of course). I must say, after listening to your show I was a little disappointed. In the discussion about your favorite Christmas movies two fairly new, but rather classic, Christmas movies were not brought up.
The first being "A Muppets Christmas Carol" which is really in a class above the rest. Don't you agree.
The second is a new movie but I know it's going to stay alive for generations to come and some day will be considered the greatest movie of all time. I'm really sad that you guys didn't bring this up, but I know for myself in the last 2 years, this movie has brought me so much joy. Figured it out yet? "I'm here with my dad and he wants me to sing him a song." "I'm singing, I'm in a store and I'm singing" "SANTA! I know him!" It's the movie staring the one and only Will Ferrell. That's right, "Elf". If you haven't seen it, you really need to.

Leanne, you are correct. 'Elf' is a modern classic in my book. It's actually the only film I've ever watched and actually wished I had directed myself.

Dorsey, I will join you in championing 'Scrooged.' It has Bill Murray trying to staple antlers to a mouse's skull PLUS the really moving music sequence at the end. What's not to like?

If nobody has seen "Trapped in Paradise" with Nic Cage, Jon Lovitz, and Dana Carvey, go get it now. It's awesome. A good Christmas movie with a 'warm feeling in your heart' ending.

And you can't help but crack up watching Nic Cage deal with his 2 idiot brothers!!! A classic!!
