Lost? - [Erik]
Lets talk Lost. I would love to hear your theories. Before I get to a few of my own, if you are lost, go to lostpedia.com. You will be blown away by the amount and depth of the information there. It's also a great place to follow the storyline this summer through The Lost Experience alternate reality game.
Alright...last night's season finale...here are a few thoughts...
- Penelope (Persephone?) [Desmond's girl friend] has been introduced as a new key character. As the daughter of the very loaded Charles Windmore (possibly associated with the Hanso Foundation), she seems to have stumbled across the island (and its unique electromagnetic qualities) during her search for her one true love (the brootha guy). Daddy very possibly trapped Desmond on the island to get him away from his daughter.
- Here's the problem, Penelope can't find the island. Like "Henry Gale" [apparently the leader of the others (and I must say I called that before last night's episode and am quite proud of myself)] like he said, once you leave the island you won't be able to find it. Only when the electromagnetism of the island is discharged (through failure to push the button or through turning the key) can somebody outside "see" the island.
- So, Penelope (given her vast resources) has placed guys in Antarctica to monitor for strong electromagnetic activity. They missed it before (when flight 815 came down) but this time they saw it. They now have the coordinates and have notified Penelope.
That's enough to get things started. There's so much to talk about...storyline/cliff hanger stuff, the giant four toed foot, and of course the alternate reality game. I'll see you in the comments.

Yeppirs...I also think Libby was some kind of plant, either knowingly, or b/c of some kind of mental experiments. B/c she "just happened" to give Desmond the boat that got him stuck on the island, hence fulfilling Daddy's plans. Then she "just happens" to be in the mental ward with Hurley for reasons yet unknown.
FOUR TOES....I love that. So weird.
On the Hanso Foundation site under Executive Bios and Board of Directors there is a name with no pic...
Liddy Wales.
Liddy, Libby...hmmm...coincidence? I think NOT!
As an aside, I don't think Walt was in that boat the whole time. I think he "appeared" there just as Henry said he was in the boat.
Reason: He would have heard his dad's voice on the dock as he talked with the others. But when Michael made a move toward the boat, that's when Walt said "Dad!" with no small amount of surprise in his voice.
Just a theory.
I loved the frikkin four toed statue! I think the Dharma guys totally believe they are the good guys. They're just doing experiments they think will benefit mankind. Did you guys go to hansocareers.com? Interesting tid-bits!
Did the electromagnetic field really bring down the plane, or was it done on purpose? Or... both?
What was that knowing nod between Jack and Evangeline Lilly?
Why set up a "fake village" on the island?
Has anyone read "Bad Twin"?
I'm with u erik. I was wondering if the whole thing (the boat, Libby) are all just a part of the Father's attempt to keep Desmond away from his daughter. After all, how would the girlfriend know to be looking for electromagnetic activity unless it was a clue she overheard from her dad or something.
Then there's the Others. Are they part of the big fake experiment, maybe the anti-experiment? Or are they part of the Dharma Initiative? (hence the disguises...) Are they pedophiles? The sure love the kiddies? Maybe their evil unseen overlord is Michael Jackson?? maybe Jacko had one more plastic surgery and now he's Henry Gale??
What is the significance of those numbers?
Why does the island possess healing power? Did Benny Hinn'$ private jet crash there too?
The Libby thing should be huge. She was with the fat guy in the psych-ward, gave Desmond the boat, and then died, just in time to not be able to identify him.
And why did Walt & his dad leave without their dog? That's just sad...
i posted all my musings on my blog on www.myspace.com/thequartermexican
it's interesting to note that hurley's imaginary friend's name was dave, and so was libby's hubby (who later inhabited a mental institution herself!).
my suspicion: libby killed her husband, but was deemed by the courts to be crazy (being a clinical psychologist, she would be know how to fake it), so she was remanded to a looney bin.
all hail king four-toes!
chase
i read an article about how one of the showrunners, damon lindelof, when the show was first starting, was going through alot of spiritual questioning. his father was dying, and he was about to get married to a devout catholic, and her spirituality apparently answered alot of his questions. and since then, damon has been putting in alot of that into the show. which i guess is why the show seems to have those elements to it.
The Quartermexican must be heard. Go read his stuff on Lost. The link is on the right of the main [ping] page.
He brilliantly observed that Kelvin is the guy that got Sayid into torture back in the 1st Iraq war.
Is there no end to you power? Long live the Quartermexican!
zzzzzzz...
There is no way that some organization is pulling strings and manipulating events like this. I have heard the concept of "recruiters" for the island, but that doesn't account for all the overlapping coincidences. All of these people are tied together in some cosmic way that is beyond any human ability to pull off.
Just look at Desmond's life... his girlfriend's father tries to buy him off and make him go away. He even confiscates the letters to his daughter so that she thinks he abandoned him. Can anyone seriously suggest this was so that he would be so humiliated that he would, in a desperate attempt to regain his honor, compete in the father's world boat race? And the father, in order to make sure that happened, put him in touch with a recruiter... who just happened to be on a plane that just happened to be in range of the island at the time that Desmond, who just happened to crash on the island, just happened to step out of the hatch long enough to miss inputting the code?
I agree that these aren't coincidences, but they aren't the result of human manipulation either.
By the way Dorse, Lost is the most compelling TV show I've ever seen. Don't knock it till you've tried it.
All of these people are tied together in some cosmic way that is beyond any human ability to pull off.
So what you're saying Zeke... "God is in control"??
"The Gospel According to Lost"?
Ah, no. Don't think so, Jeff. :)
i just realized that those guys at the end of the finale...i saw the snow, heard them speaking another language and just assumed it was russian. but IT WASN'T! it was PORTUGUESE! so this begs the question...were they portuguese men inhabiting an arctic research facility, or did some terrible weather apocolypse happen and brazil/portugal actually freeze over?!?
I'm not saying it's not a good show, but if the cliffhangers are as hardcore as everyone says, then I'm going to wait until the show is completely done, rent all the seasons, sit down with a keg of beer and case of Cheetos, and let 'er rip.
