Goodbye... For Now - [Etcetera]
We interrupt your regularly scheduled Etcetera to bring you this breaking news...
Etcetera, the show you have known and loved (or at least liked) for the last 2 1/2 years will be taking an extended hiatus.
On the upside, you'll no longer have to Tivo House.
In all seriousness, we still really love the show and suffice to say this turn of events has come up rather quickly. We promise to be in touch soon with the full story.
And now, we rejoin your regularly scheduled life already in progress...

In keeping with the vader theme, I think I've found Darth Vader's reaction when he heard that etcetera was cancelled.

How can my life actually progress after this news? I'm holding my breath until you guys resume podcasting....
...getting light-headed...
Sadness...worst news I have received in a while. I hope you all are doing well. Thinking about you and looking forward to hearing "The rest of the story."
It's just not right, Sally.

Nooooooooo! You had me hooked. Come on, baby... don't leave without saying goodbye.
What? You've taken away my center - my sunshine. How do I get through the week? Is it the "big boy pants," Sharon's grading, a lack of comedy inspiration?
Were you voted out and replaced by podcasters with a clearer strategy on Iraq?
I'm so confused, bewildered and left with nothing but questions and a sense of abandonment. I'm not ready to go through life without a weekly reminder that there are other wanderers out there.
gou...heck, I just can't say it.
You people always do this to me...just as I'm about to be all like; I'm never calling your show ever again, you go and vanish like a fart in the wind.
You're like every other women I've ever loved
Just kidding.
I've never really loved a women.
Love you guys hope to talk to you soon.
Fancy Geoff
Hmph!
'Lost' takes the winter off , and you guys think you can do the same?!?
Well I knew 'Lost', and you my friends, are no 'Lost'.
hehe... just kidding. Enjoy all your hiatusing
"DO NOT WANT!!!"
I laughed, I cried, I was touched.
I've only been listening for a couple months, but I'll miss the show.
Please let everyone know what happened, and come back when you're ready and able.
I can deal with hiatus. I just didn't see this one coming. Hope all is well, love you guys.
Came across this by accident and listened occasionally...it seemed like a little closed club - I kept trying to see if it would be more inviting to the masses, but the inside jokes were tiring. Plus, it was troubling to me that a Christian podcast/blog would have to be bleeped and have swearing be no big deal.
Yeah...'cause real Christians never do anything "not nice."
Puh-leeze....
Besides, I listened to the show for over a year, and only ever heard it bleeped once or twice. Are you sure you weren't listening to Stupid Church People?
Wow - I thought only SCP had people surf by and drop comments like bombs. Looks like pingetcetera has reached a new level of the blogging universe.
I better stop before I say something un-christian.
...and I'll really miss the inside jokes...
They aren't inside jokes if you're on the inside. And everyone is welcome in the internet stream of collective consciousness. I hope you give us another chance if we can get the show back on the air/web...whatever.
As for cussing, check this sh*t out.
I'm sorry, but I agree with anonymous!! It was just a little closed society. I too, happened upon it, and couldn't get into it, because I felt everyone knew each other and I was not in the "inner" circle. When the hosts talked about their personal lives, it was hard to know what the point was. Was it to promote books, music, or themselves????? It would be intersting to me to learn why this podcast is leaving the air.

Thanks for sharing that F-ing awesome article. I laughed my A off.
Holy S!!!
Don't want to sound rude or anything here, because as a Christian I am forbidden from such human characteristics, but Erik, Sharon & Matt have often again and again made it clear that if you want to talk, you MUST interrupt. They themselves do it...true Erik does it more than most, but that is the only way to get a word in. And they are not offended when you do. Anonymous, have you called in? I'm not asking for a name, but saying that it's hard to "get inside" without actually calling is like never buying a lottory ticket and then complaining that you don't ever win, or not voting and hating the politicians who were voted in. Etcetera is a wonderful show, it does take some getting used to, and it does have a lot of inside jokes. But guess what....those of us inside often times don't get them. Also, a little sensitivity too....Erik is going through something right now...we don't know what, and you know what it isn't our business...though his openness has made us feel like it is...and Erik will dearly miss the show if it doesn't continue. I don't think he needs people saying what's wrong with the show. If you've come to the conclusion that it's a closed-society, then you've listened to enough shows to know these are genuine people who love each other & God. And if you haven't listened to enough shows, go back and do so....I know I will...heck, I'd have seconds and wash it down with a cold budweiser...or can't I drink beer either?
Cheers
Hello Everyone,
Well first of all, I want to thank all of you guys for all your kind words and encouragment. You are all so much like family to us, and I can't believe we have only known most of you for about 2 years. Amazing how God does that with our brothers and sisters here on earth. Keep us in your prayers, and God may just do (as He tends to do) abundantly more than we could ask or imagine.
Now for the anonymouses (pronounced a-non-a-muss-ees) I have a couple comments and questions for you. First, let me say that I am so saddened that we never knew you were sitting out there listening to the show and becoming irritated with it. You never tried to call in, or (as far as I know) post a pointed comment to us, asking us for some clarification on things that bothered you. We never even got a chance to become your friends. For that, I am regretful.
As far as the point of us talking about things going on in our lives, I just have to ask you, don't you have friends that you get together with and discuss your lives? We are just sharing with each other. There are countless times that just our very experience itself helps someone else. I believe that is a big reason why God asks us to join together with other believers. There is healing in "weeping with those who weep, and rejoicing with those who rejoice." Although we never ever claimed we "had a point," if there were one, I think that would be the closest to it.
Next, the "inside jokes" weren't inside at all. In fact, almost every one of them was birthed right there on the show. They were spontaneously wrought out of friends getting together to laugh and be joyful. Then they carried on for weeks afterward. I understand you aren't expected to listen to ALL, or even MOST of the shows, but if you stick around long enough, you'll be there for the inception of one, and be able to laugh with the rest of us.
The "inner circle" is almost entirely composed of people we never knew before the show, but came to know and love because they called in and became near and dear friends. I genuinely wish that could've been you two as well.
And finally, the only words we ever bleeped were "A.P.-ness" and "hairlip." There. I said them. No more bleeps. Now, I truly am sorry if that troubles you. But once again, I want you to know everything up front.
I am sorry for the fact that you were offended, but I am not at all sorry about any part of the show. We are real people, who happen to love our Abba, and want nothing more than to meet new siblings in Him, and love each other. I hope you can see that, if nothing else.
Please don't take this as a lambasting. That is not at all my intent. I appreciate your comments, and hope I answered some of your questions and concerns.
Swearing is no big deal. I don't swear by practice, but I'm not offended by it. Look if swearing is a big sin to you, either you haven't been a Christian long, or you are very sheltered.
thanks for explainig the AP-ocity. that was one inside reference that I was wondering about. Glad to finally know that one. (note I'm not anonymous I, anonymous II or the Q source).
While we're on a break, i'm going back and listening to shows that occured before I started listening to ETC. I downloaded the 2006 shows from gospelcom and listened to the 1/4/06 show tonight. Hope your resolutions are going better than mine.
Sharon,
Not sure if you noticed, but one Anonymous had nothing bad to say.
"I laughed, I cried, I was touched"
I wish I had chance to call in, though I've typically still been at work during your stream and download the show. I didn't use a name because I rarely visit blog sites and didn't think it was worth it for one post.
May GOD guide and bless everyone at Key Life through all the changes that are happening.
-Another Erik
