Crazy to me that we who should be more concerned about the stuardship of our environment have allowed the two-tailed-two-tata'd creature-loving crowd to hijack that cause and turn it into the circus it is now. So maybe worrying about paper or plastic really isn't an arbitrary excercise after all. I love the show and the great lengths to which you go weekly to demonstrate the far reaches of God's grace.
Since it came up on the show, I looked further into the story behind 'What The Bleep Do We Know?'. The blurb on Wikipedia (a non-Christian/religious) site bears out the rap I had heard about it, that it's largely junk science paired with new age hokum. In the interest of full disclosure, I have not seen the film myself. Maybe Jordan can let us know if this assessment is merited.
I saw What the Bleep after my boss hounded me for months to check it out. It's like a lot of other New Age teachings, which I spent years wandering in: full of pseudoscience, revealed "secrets" and ancient mystery. I understand the appeal--and fact is, it touches something in the mystical part of us that is so neglected by modern Protestantism. But this stuff is nothing new, and let's keep in mind that it's supposedly being channeled via a 35,000 year old warrior spirit who fought a war against Atlantis. Uhhhh huh.
Simply stated, WTBDWK's conclusions are insane. One of the persons interviewed is a channeled dead guy for crying outloud. I wasn't basing my theory on its conclusions. Rather, I was suggesting that it would be a good illustration of the double slit experiment which is a very repeatable experiment. You are all wise to take any new idea (mine included) with a grain of salt. I am curious to see what hugh ross says about this idea. He is perhaps a bit more credible.
After further review, I have come to the conclusion that my idea is, if not complete hogwash, at least not founded by empiricle evidence whatsoever. Proving once more that I don't know what the heck I'm talking about. First Ken Hoven, now this! I don't know what to believe anymore. I give up. Maybe the athiests are right.
I just listened to the show and wanted to comment on Sharon's talk about abortion and politics, etc. I honestly think that a candidates stance on a abortion has little to do with what sort of job they would do as president of this country.
I mean, seriously, what would happen if the Supreme Court ruled that abortion was illegal again? Would that actually stop abortion? Hell no, I say. I think abortion is a terrible thing, but I honestly don't think that changing any law will change people's behavior. I mean shoot, look at pot use or other drug use, alcohol abuse, etc. To me the real issue is trying to get people not to have an abortion, whether it's legal or not is really immaterial in accomplishing that goal. I know people probably won't agree with this, but I just think it's a non-issue in reality.
I'm tired of Christians pulling out the "trump card" of abortion and voting in people who fail in every other category but past the "abortion test". Can we really be that naive?
We had a Republican was President for 6 years, and the Republicans dominated both the House & Senate for 6 years...yet hardly even a whisper of a change on the abortion front...hmmm, makes me think that perhaps the Republican political candidates just use the abortion trump card to just get in office.
Yeah that's a good thought Mark...it's like an issue they know they can use, so what's their motivation to do something about it when they know they can use it to get re-elected?
[ping] is the old blog for an internet show/podcast that streams live on Tuesday afternoons from 4 - 5 EST. The show exists (ostensibly) to promote the radio program on which we work, Steve Brown Etc. Truth be told, it's much more than that to us (and a lot less to others).
Click here for the live stream Tues. 4 - 5 PM EST & bounce back the [ping] by calling in toll-free during the program... 1.888.547.8383.

Factual Errors in WTBDWK
This is probably not comprehensive, but it shows that there are errors. Grain of salt, I'm tellin' ya!

Hey peeps - been a while!

Good comments, Tim. To piggy back on that:
We had a Republican was President for 6 years, and the Republicans dominated both the House & Senate for 6 years...yet hardly even a whisper of a change on the abortion front...hmmm, makes me think that perhaps the Republican political candidates just use the abortion trump card to just get in office.

Hey. I couldn't resist posting this link. It came up on Yahoo! yesterday:
